Clifton - Oakfield Road
Mama Bear’s Day Nursery and Pre-school on Oakfield Road in Clifton is based in a wonderful 19th century building in the heart of the area. The premises have been used continuously to provide childcare as a day nursery for 60 years and we are proud to continue the tradition!
Located within walking distance of Whiteladies Road, Pembroke Road, Park Street, Bristol Zoo and the Downs, this nursery is the ideal place for parents living in the west of Bristol and/or working in and around Clifton and the City Centre. Many of the parents who use us work in connection with the University, BRI, BBC as well as local professionals.
When you visit Mama Bear’s, you will be immediately greeted with a homely atmosphere. Our nursery staff are dedicated to developing the children’s environments to make our nursery a stimulating and interactive setting. A particular favourite is the soft play room and ball pool room!
Our children love running around in the front garden and exploring the messy play, water and sand pits. The sensory garden at the back of the nursery is a place of magic and mystery. Helping a child to develop their individual awareness of the world around is important to us. Why not ask to see what we are herbs and vegetables we are growing at nursery when you visit?
This nursery is also a fantastic melting-pot of different cultures, backgrounds and nationalities as we care for many children whose parents have travelled to Bristol on long-term business from abroad. As we teach them English, so they teach us their own language.
Parking in Clifton isn’t great, so the nursery is best accessed on foot or by public transport. Local bus routes are the number 8/8A, 9/9A and X62. If you are driving and find it tricky to park in the mornings, our nursery staff are more than happy to meet children at the car when necessary.

“We are very lucky to have amazing outdoor spaces for children to explore and learn, creating fantastic learning opportunities for all the children that we care for. We make the most of our central location and regularly visit Bristol Zoo, Bristol Museum and local parks. We have a great team of well qualified practitioners who continually train to maintain the best standards of care possible. We pride ourselves on being a great place to learn and to teach others by having apprentices and students, helping to create a better workforce for the future.”
